“I am writing to give you some information about my relationship with HCCA International.

HCCA’s Vice President Ted Merhoff approached me three years ago at a DFWHC (Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council) Healthcare Human Resources meeting regarding international recruitment. I quickly told him that he would have to meet four conditions in order for us to have a discussion: could his company provide nurses who were BSN prepared, fluent in English, have a Texas RN license, and a minimum of two years of pediatric nursing experience? To my surprise, he assured me that he could meet those conditions, especially with no up-front expense.

I learned that the DFW Hospital Council recommended HCCA, after members of the Council traveled to the Philippines to investigate the company first-hand. Ted made a presentation to our senior nursing leadership which led to our signing an agreement with HCCA. Our first two nurses were interviewed by telephone, hired, completed a thirty month assignment with us, and are now permanent staff.

We have since made three trips to HCCA’s Manila office to hire more nurses, maintain contact with the nurses we had already hired and who are delayed by visa retrogression, and to provide a series of educational presentations to our nurses.

We have had the pleasure of having (HCCA’s CNO) Winnie Fritz speak to our nursing leadership twice at Children's. Our HCCA Client Services Director, Nicki Yorke, has visited Children's on many occasions during the past years and maintains close contact with our HCCA nurses, recruitment team, and nurse managers.

The strength HCCA International provides is their commitment to forming partnerships with the government of a foreign country and the national nursing association prior to recruitment activities to assure there is an excess of nurses available for positions in the US. In addition, HCCA International seeks collaboration with local universities in the country to strengthen their curriculums to enable nurses to better adjust to healthcare practices in the US. Finally, HCCA International offers unprecedented support of nurses during the selection process, immigration, arrival in the US, and continued relationships/education during the thirty month assignment with our facility.
