REWARDING CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (U.S.)

HCCA VS. DIRECT

As you are making your plans to start a nursing career in the U.S., you may find many potential employers advertising for foreign educated nurses. Selecting a company that shares your goals can be a challenge. The following information highlights the advantages of HCCA International to help you face decisions that will be important to your future.

  HCCA International Direct Placement
Expertise

International Nurses are HCCA’s core business – it is what we do!

HCCA has helped recruite and relocate over 500 nurses to the United States. Since 1973, we have helped over 30,000 healthcare professionals, worldwide.

HCCA is ready for, and has experienced most of, the unique challenges presented by international nurses.

HCCA will support you through all the necessary examinations, the immigration process and ensure you are licensed in the state in which you intend to practice.

HCCA has achieved the JCAHO Gold Seal of Approval for Health Care Staffing Services.

Hospitals specialize in caring for acutely ill patients. They do not specialize in recruiting and managing international nurses. This presents unique challenges that hospitals are often not ready for. Even some of the larger hospital systems may have independently recruited only 50 or so international nurses.

Some hospitals have recruited international nurses on their own and then come to HCCA International because they know we can do it more effectively and efficiently. This is better for the hospital and the nurse.

Sponsorship

Since HCCA acts as your sponsor for the immigration process we will submit your application to the USCIS as soon as you have passed the IELTS and NCLEX exams.

Since the hospital acts as your sponsor for the US immigration process, even after you have passed NCLEX you can only be submitted to USCIS after you have been offered a position by a hospital.

Immigration Process

HCCA has submitted hundreds of immigration petitions. Immigration petitions are supported by a licensed immigration attorney. Our petitions are rarely denied. HCCA has a dedicated Immigration and Processing department to look after the immigration process and Nurse licensure etc…

A hospital will usually partner with an Immigration attorney to manage the immigration paperwork. The attorney controls the speed at which you progress through the immigration process. The hospital relies on the communication it receives from the attorney.

Placement choice

HCCA has over 50 clients throughout the United States. We feel it is unreasonable for you to have to choose your placement until about 6 months prior to you traveling. We match your location preferences to our available locations. If you don’t like a particular client that we may have available, then you can pass, and wait for the next opportunity to arise.

Even if you have passed NCLEX, you must make a commitment to a particular hospital sometimes 12 – 18 months before you are expected to travel due to the length of the immigration process.

Security

Very occasionally, a hospital will poorly anticipate its needs after offering an assignment to an HCCA International nurse. Because of our client portfolio – we will have no problem placing you with another client.

If a hospital has hired you – they can rescind their offer at any time – and not offer you an alternative option. The hospital’s census may drop unexpectedly; they may hit a rough patch financially, change management or suddenly find themselves able to recruit sufficiently from within the United States. A lot can happen in 12 – 18 months!

Benefits

HCCA has an outstanding benefits package, including Medical / Dental / Vision Insurance, Life Insurance, Long and Short Term Disability and a 401(k) plan. Many of our client hospitals also extend some of their benefits to our employees; such as subsidized travel, meals and educational opportunities.

Our salaries are competitive within each market and our nurses always fare very well when they become full-time hospital employees after they complete their HCCA contract.

For the first 90 days we will guarantee that you get paid for 36 hours per week.

If you already have credentials, such as IELTS, NCLEX or CGFNS our generous incentives will match most hospital relocation packages.

Hospitals may entice you with salaries that appear impressive. It is important that you consider the whole package. Such as the support and expertise that you will receive throughout the process.

In the US, you can expect to be called off – as an hourly employee you only get paid for the hours your work.

Pre-deployment preparation

HCCA knows and understands that Nursing in the USA is unique. We ensure our nurses are well prepared for their new role – understanding the hospitals expectations and providing the tools to meet and exceed them.

HCCA has employees that have lived all over the world. Our employees can talk personally with you about their experiences.

We know each of our individual client’s medical requirements and work with medical providers in your country of hire to complete the hospitals stringent medical requirements prior to arrival in the USA. This means you can get to work as soon as possible, minimizing the amount of time that you do not have an income.

Hospitals that are inexperienced with international nurse recruitment may not fully understand how difficult the transition will be. If they do not understand you cannot be adequately prepared.

Many hospital HR managers have not experienced any other cultures – they will therefore find it difficult to understand the differences that exist between US culture and other cultures, practices and behaviors from around the world.

Your commitment

Your 30 month commitment to HCCA International and your hospital assignment will give you a fantastic grounding for your future as a full-time hospital employee. We feel that after 30 months you will be settled and ready to make your life in your new found home.

If you only have a short-term contract – 12 months or so you may become restless and not want to settle in a particular area. Obviously the hospital wants you to stay long term. If this is the case – they should be willing to offer you a longer commitment.

Experience in your arrival and your accommodation

During peak periods HCCA is arriving nurses in the USA on a weekly basis. Again – it is what we do! We have close partnerships with apartment complexes, we know how to set up your apartment economically to high specifications and even know the types of food to put in your pantry…

We intricately know the details of opening a bank account, obtaining a social security number and provide orientation training to JCAHO standards.

We know and understand that flights are late, and that bags sometimes get lost and we are experienced at dealing with these things, we know how tired you are when you arrive – our employees regularly make the same international trip you will.

You get your own apartment free for one month, no shared accommodation – and it is normally for a lease of at least 6 months so you can truly get settled – before worrying about where to live on a long term basis.

If a hospital has no prior international experience – how could they possibly do it as well as we do?

Managing Hospital Expectations

Since we know what our nurses need to succeed, we can let the hospital know this up front. All our hospital clients are aware that you will need at least a 4 – 6 week adjustment period.

During your adjustment period you will be shadowing an experienced RN, whilst gradually taking on your own patient assignment.

If more is necessary, through our vast experience, we can tailor make an orientation plan to your needs.

A hospital without international experience will not know how to manage your transition effectively. This will give you a poor grounding for your future career in the USA.

Our commitment to your success

We are committed 100% to your success.

We can provide additional training as needed and will always be there to support you through any issues.

Very rarely, your first placement may not be a good fit – in certain circumstances, if the situation permits, we may be willing to place you in an alternative hospital. With our expansive client list, we have the ability to do this.

Hospitals can only commit so much time to your success. At the end of the day your options may be limited.

Continuity

HCCA International is the same HCCA International throughout the world. We do not pass you to another company when you arrive in the US. We begin our relationship with you from day one. We know and understand your individual needs.

You may only begin to develop your relationship with your hospital upon arrival – you may have to repeat the same information once or twice!
